The Anzac Centenary commemorates the service and sacrifice of Australian servicemen and servicewomen from the First World War to the present day. An important date in our Second World War history will be remembered on 8 May 2015, with the 70th anniversary of the declaration of Victory in Europe. Throughout this month, a number of European countries will honour the contributions made by Australia’s armed forces during the Second World War as Australian veterans, families and descendants take part in commemorative missions held in London and Paris. From 1939 to 1945, Australians served in the Royal Australian Navy, Royal Australian Air Force, the Second Australian Imperial Force, the Royal Air Force, the Royal Navy and the Merchant Navy,  in North Africa Greece, Crete, Syria, France, Germany,  the United Kingdom, the Mediterranean, the Atlantic, the North Sea and the Arctic Ocean.
