The Hon. Sandy Macdonald

Sandy Macdonald was a Senator in the Australian Parliament from 1993 until 2008. He served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence (2006-2007) and also to the Minister for Trade (2005-2006). He chaired the Senate Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee for eight years and served on a range of parliamentary committees overseeing Australia’s international relations and security services. He also chaired the Australia Turkey Parliamentary Group which helps facilitate the strong relationship between our two countries. Sandy has visited Gallipoli twice and has participated in a range of military commemorative activity in other parts of the world, including commemorations of Anzac Day at Hellfire Pass and Long Tan. On retiring from the Senate, he was appointed to the Board of Defence Housing Australia, a position he still holds. He is a wool and beef producer in New South Wales. Sandy is married to Alice and they have three children.
