His Excellency Major General (Rtd) Martyn Dunne (Ex-Officio)

His Excellency Major General (Rtd) Martyn Dunne is the New Zealand High Commissioner to Australia. He took up his appointment in Canberra on 4 May 2011. Prior to this role Martyn was Comptroller and Chief Executive of the New Zealand Customs Service from 2004. He spent 27 years in the New Zealand Defence Force, including serving as Commander Joint Forces in the rank of Major General. His military service included appointments with the New Zealand Special Air Service (SAS). In 1999, he was appointed as the first New Zealand Senior Officer to East Timor and, concurrently, held an operational command position within the International Force East Timor (INTERFET) where he commanded the Dili area of operations during the INTERFET deployment. In June 2008, Martyn was elected Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation and in June 2010 was re-elected for a further one year term. Martyn is a member of the New Zealand advisory group to the Australia-New Zealand Leadership Forum, which covers the wide-ranging and aspirational developments and directions in the Australia-New Zealand relationship. Martyn is married to Jenny and they have two sons and a daughter.
