Professor Margaret Gardner AO

Professor Margaret Gardner is the Vice-Chancellor and President of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. She was appointed as Vice-Chancellor in April 2005. Armed with a first class honours degree in Economics and a PhD from the University of Sydney, in 1988 she was a Fulbright postdoctoral fellow spending time at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cornell University, and the University of California, Berkeley. Margaret has had a prominent career as an academic. In recent years, she has provided strategic advice on educational pathways, human resource management, equity and employment and industrial relations to governments, industry and a broad range of institutions. Margaret has also served on the boards of a number of bodies, including in the arts and education sectors. She currently chairs the Museums Board of Victoria, RMIT International University Vietnam Pty Ltd and RMIT Vietnam Holdings Pty Ltd, and holds a directorship with Open Universities Australia.
