Major General Brian (Hori) Howard AO MC ESM (Ret’d)

Major General “Hori” Howard is the Colonel Commandant of the Royal Australian Regiment and National President of the Royal Australian Regiment Association.  He also held this position from 1998 until 2003.  Hori served in the Australian Army for 34 years.  He filled exchange postings with the US Marines and the British Army, and served for over six years in the Pacific Islands Regiment.  Hori commanded a rifle company in Vietnam for which he was awarded the Military Cross.  His final military posting was as Director General of the Natural Disasters Organisation, for which he was awarded an AO.  On retirement, Hori was appointed as Director General of the New South Wales State Emergency Service, an appointment he held for over 10 years, and for which he was awarded the Emergency Services Medal.  He is a widower and has one son and four grandchildren.
